Hi there and welcome,

My name is Joshua Cowell and I am the founder of Pixelightstudios.

I currently live in Woromi country and would like to acknowledge and pay my respects to the Worimi people from this beautiful nation on which I live and work.

I first started my journey into the world of photography and fine arts back in my hometown of Armidale in 1995 at the local TAFE. After completing an Associate Diploma of Fine Art, I moved to Meadow Bank TAFE in North Sydney to contuinue my studies. After a year at Meadowbank TAFE, I transferred to the National Art School to practice printmaking and painting and complete my Bachelor of Fine Art.

During that time, I worked in a  Jazz Club at Circular Quay called the Basement, where I photographed musicians until the early hours of the morning.

I graduated from the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney in 1999 and in 2002, and decided to work abroad.

After a period working abroad, I came back to Australia and completed a Master of Arts Photography at the Photo Studies College in Melbourne.

While in Melbourne, I experimented with and fell in love with studio lighting, artistic direction and the control that is possible with studio lighting. I love natural light just as much as studio light and believe in marrying the best of both light worlds.
