It's hard to go through Newcastle and not stop at iconic Merewether, now home to Newcastle Surfest. The breathtaking scenery is accentuated  at golden hour when the beach comes to life, transformed into another world; the lights dance on the wet sand, surfers ride the waves and ships pass slowly in the background on their way to Newcastle Harbour and back out to sea.
